    President's Message

Welcome Back!  I hope everyone weathered Hurricane Irma safely and is returning to business as usual.  We are starting off the year a little later than planned.  Our first meeting that was originally scheduled was canceled due to Hurricane Irma.

Our first official meeting of the year was held this past Thursday October 19th at the South Florida Water Management District - Fort Myers Service Center and it was a great success! We were pleased to have Chris Pacitto from Velocity Engineering provide more insight to the geotechnical engineering field with his "Geotechnical Engineering Overview & Typical Southwest Florida Considerations" presentation.  The presentation provided 1 PDH hour and lunch!  Our next meeting will be a BBQ at the Panther Island Mitigation Bank on November 10th. An email will be sent out shortly with more details.

We appreciated the SFWMD letting our chapter use their conference room.  This allows us to keep the meeting at a lower cost.  The cost savings on the venue helps our chapter allocate additional funds towards scholarships, MATHCOUNTS, and sponsor other events.

Over the last year our chapter has been working on better ways to reach our members. New this year we will be adding a "Featured Member" to the newsletter each month and a short synopsis on their service-based engineering projects. If you have not visited our new website, please check it out www.fes-calusa.org.  We welcome any feedback as we work to enhance the website and its features, such as prepayment for our meetings.  We also have a Facebook page, @FESCalusa.  Should you or your firm have any pictures, job postings, community events, etc. feel free to tag us or email to publicrelations@fes-calusa.org.

My goals this year as the Calusa Chapter President are to continue encouraging member involvement and community outreach with an emphasis on K-12.  We are in the process of ironing out the meeting schedule and are always open to new venues, topics, and speakers should you have any ideas.  I am looking forward to a great year serving as your President.
